Justice Yeldham

...

What’s been described as “a trumpet player trapped in a two dimensional universe” is in fact the unique audio work of Justice Yeldham, a maverick musician with an unhealthy obsession with sheets of broken glass. By pressing his face and lips against the glass whist employing various vocal techniques ranging from throat singing to raspberries, he turns disguarded household windows into crude musical instruments. Resulting in a wide variety of cacophonous noises that are strangely controlled and oddly musical.

Justice Yeldham is the alter-ego of Australian sound performer Lucas Abela, whose past sonic experiments were conducted under monikers like A Kombi, DJ Smallcock & Peeled Hearts Paste.

Grey Hairs

...

What started as a fictional band to act as an excuse for the members to go to the pub on a weeknight has become something a bit more proper of late after some shows with Flipper and records in the pipeline.  Even though they were probably aiming for something between Pere Ubu, Pissed  Jeans and Scratch Acid it’s no surprise, with the members being kids of the early 90s, it ended up sounding like Nirvana. Just don’t call it a mid-life crisis.

ORE and KK Null

...

Image glitched by Antonio Roberts

ORE and KK NULL are delighted to announce a distinctive collaboration as part of Supersonic 2012.

In many ways, KK NULL’s collaboration with Lash Frenzy (with Sam on tuba) at Supersonic 2010 acted as a proof of concept for the amplified tuba sound of ORE, so it’s entirely fitting for Capsule to bring the two entities together this year. Better still, KK NULL and ORE have gelled so well in the early stages of working on this collaboration that they have also decided to release a limited CDr single together, which will be available at the festival.

They will be performing a specially-written piece together, culminating in a vast cacophony of sound. Be scared.

Ruins Alone

...

Formed in 1985, RUINS has been continuing to develop and deepen their world for over 18 years. Tunes are complicated and mysterious, and songs are sung in the language of their own invention. It’s high-tension, wild, heavy, speedy, acute, and powerful. RUINS started with a noisy hardcore sound, then moved into a more technical, complicated sound, performances showcase both characteristics. True hardcore progressive sound.

Warm Digits

...

Warm Digits is the krautophonic blizzard-wave duo of Andrew Hodson and Steve Jefferis, based either side of the Pennines in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Manchester. Warm Digits make a semi-improvised brew of metronomic rhythms, snowstorm guitar and radiophonic electronics, dual-laptop electro, swathes of no-wave guitar and frantic free jazz drumming, taking their cue from the hypnotic repetition of Neu!, the textural overload of My Bloody Valentine, the glacial otherworldliness of Emeralds, and the sensuous modernity of cosmic disco; there are hints in the mix too of Eno, Giorgio Moroder and Holy Fuck.

Stian Westerhus

...

“The sense of menace is generated with huge energy by the belligerently brilliant Norwegian guitarist Westerhus who coaxes a plethora of tortured sounds from his axe, bowed notes elongating into harmonic dismemberment of epic proportions. (…) This is heady, sometimes heavy, otherworldly stuff, fuelled by jazz but never hindered by it. Welcome to the new century of improvised music.” JazzWise Magazine

Kevin Drumm

...

“If someone commissioned you to write a history of noise music in the last 20 years and not mention Kevin Drumm, you’d have to reject the offer. Since the mid-90’s, Drumm has recorded for almost every experimental label you can think of, from Erstwhile to Mego to Hanson, and played with almost every experimental musician you could namedrop, from Jim O’Rourke to Lasse Marhaug to Aaron Dilloway. Most importantly, he’s made every sound imaginable. Primarily with guitar, but also synthesizers and laptops, Drumm has created his own musical universe in which no sonic stone needs to go unturned.” The WIre

Jarboe

...

A unique energy, Jarboe’s music draws from a variety of charged sources. Her 14-year involvement with Swans cemented her place as an icon in avante garde music and she has worked prolifically as a solo artist and collaborator since. Her delivery has been described as voice acting and also channeling. A primary objective for Jarboe is to close in on the gap in the audience/performer relationship via complete submission and vicarious experience through her performance.

Jarboe will be bringing her “Intimate Indemnity” tour to Supersonic Festival 2012. This tour will feature Jarboe and classically trained pianist Renee Valentine Nelson performing songs of Swans and World Of Skin and solo Jarboe songs from her newest records entitled Indemnity 1 and 2 and will focus on singing, melody, intimacy.

Doomsday Student

...

You know who these men are. They have been other men. Who they were before does not matter. What matters most is who they are now. These men, with two menacing guitars, violent drums, and wild words will fill that void in you. They will build bunkers out of your bones. They will make weapons out of your teeth. They will drink your tears and feed on your meat. Born from the ashes of Arab on Radar, Doomsday Student come from that untouchable tradition of noise rock from Providence, Rhode Island.

Klaus Kinski

...

Klaus Kinski (the band) are 5 lazy people from the North Wales coast and one man from Bury. They have 2 bent guitars, a goth Bass, fur Singer and 2 Drummers (one good, one bad). They currently fart about in Manchester where they like to annoy sound men and the general public by playing the most obnoxious and abrasive music possible at ridiculous volumes, usually half naked and soiled. AnkstMusik, the legendary Welsh independent label responsible for Datblygu and Gorkys Zygotic Mynci signed the band back in 2009 to release 2 7″ records and their debut album ‘Skelington Horse’, which found a fan in Jean Herve Peron of legendary Krautrock group Faust who invited the gits to play at his annual Avant Garde Festival in Shiphorst, Germany this year. Since then the band have played up and down the country too much and just want a cup of tea.

Cut Hands

...

In 2002, being inspired by Haitian vaudou musicians’ capacity to make intensely powerful music with almost no technology, William Bennett first employed djembes and doundouns on the classic Wriggle Like A Fucking Eel 12” by Whitehouse, in what was seen as a radical musical direction by many in the wider noise/industrial scene.
The Cut Hands project itself was founded by William Bennett in 2007 initially to experiment further with his obscure collection of Ghanaian percussion instruments in free-form work-outs alongside other types of (genuine) sound experimenting. The fruit of 8 years of recordings finally culminated in 2011’s critically acclaimed and best-selling release Afro Noise I.

The music of Cut Hands featured heavily in the VBS films Liberia (2009) and Mandingo (2010)

Kogumaza

...

Kogumaza formed in Nottingham in 2009. They use primitive rhythms, patterns and riffs to create dense and mesmeric song-cycles. The band’s live sound is manipulated through dub delays and echoes, allowing what is basically a heavy rock trio to expand and willingly lose control of the sound they make as they make it.

The resulting music marries fuzzed-out psychedelia to an ambient aesthetic, placing the band somewhere between the infinite repetition of Moondog, the thick gloop of Master Of Reality-era Sabbath and the hypnotic pulse of Lungfish.

They have recently released their first LP on the Low Point label and toured Europe with Zomes.

“At times Kogumaza sounds like the future or the strange murmurings of the universe; at others, the cyclical pounding of drums conjures ghosts of ancient rituals, as if drawn from the very centre of the earth” Fluid Radio

Nathan Bell

...

[jwplayer config=”audio sidebar” playlistid=”2743″]

The compositions of Bell’s music for banjo and other various instruments has been ongoing since the early nineties. He is probably most famous for his bass playing in Lungfish and the duel guitar compositions of Human Bell.

On the latest recording ‘ Colors’ (Lancashire & Somerset) he plays cyclic banjo music – sometimes delayed – sometimes bowed creating medative hymns for the soul. 8 tracks that flow like an abstract sound poem with Nathan’s hypnotic banjo mantras wound around percussion, bass, trumpet viola and cello. Recorded and played on by Peter Townsend (Bonnie”Prince”Billy, Superwolf, King Kong, Human Bell) in Baltimore, Louisville and Nashville”.

White Hills

...

With just the right blend of psychedelia and hypnotic grooves, White Hills weaves in and out of anthemic chants, deep space bleeps and other worldly madness for a mix that proves to be intoxicating. Since the release of the band’s debut album, listeners have been praising their originality and unique brand of heavy space rock. White Hills formed out of the need to forge Space Rock into the 21st Century.

‘A label like “space-rock” deserves music that’s as nuanced and limitless-feeling as space, and space-rock deserves a band like White Hills. Not only do they add urgency to familiar psychedelic rock templates, but they pay just as close attention to the quiet moments as the raging ones– each track on their self-titled Thrill Jockey debut displays a careful layering of sounds and atmospheres’ -Pitchfork
