“Capsule’s Supersonic festival has evolved…to consistently provide one of UK’s most anticipated Festival line-ups. Fans of dubstep, krautrock, free-jazz and doom metal were all catered for on a bill which promised to both rupture the ears while stimulating the mind through its diverse selection of music, film and specialist talks.” – CLASH

Capsule the brains behind Supersonic Festival are curators, promoters and fans of the finest music, revealing the otherwise indescribable connections between contemporary music and art, crafting extraordinary events for adventurous audiences. Now in it’s 9th year, the event will once again take place at the Custard Factory in the heart of in the heart of Eastside of Birmingham, utilising converted factory warehouses and art galleries and offering up-close, intimate settings to showcase some of the most exciting music out there. Capsule’s passion for genre bending sound and performances is at the heart of all their events – there are not many places where you can listen to funeral doom, prog, folk, avant jazz and grindcore in one weekend.

The festival is now in it’s 9th year, starting out as a 1 day event in 2003 which featured Coil, LCD Sound System, The Bug, DJ Food and many more. Over the years the festival has garnered a worldwide reputation for being one of the most exciting events for experimental music, gathering audiences from all corners of the UK and further a field.

“Of this welter of well organised, wisely curated festivals (ATP, Faster Than Sound, Sonar, Greenman) perhaps the best organised and most wisely curated was Supersonic. Plotted by Birmingham promoters Capsule, 2007’s Supersonic inhabited the nexus where metal, folk and noise met.”
Plan B Magazine

“Supersonic, in our opinion the best festival in the world right now”
Rock-A-Rolla Magazine

“Every attraction is in some way a visceral sensory experience – ear candy for lovers of the sonically extreme…So many other music festivals offer you what you expect to hear, merely affirming your good taste in music, Supersonic is a place to be educated and surprised: new, experimental and intellectually nourishing.”
– WIRE

“Supersonic’s trump card; is it not only a festival that is wildly diverse in it’s content but it also manages to flow musically from stage to stage, like looking through your best friend’s record collection.” Rough Trade Shops

Market Place

After the success of last few years of our ’Market Place’ we’re really excited about developing this area of the festival, a space for independent distributors, record labels,  poster artists and peddlers of curiosities to sell their wares, network and for you to meet face to face.  The Market Place is also where the bands sell their merch. This area is equipped with a tea room serving a selection of epicurean delights. Open to the public on Saturday 22rd of October through to Sunday 23rd.

Previous stall holders have included: Rough Trade, Conspiracy Records,  Wonderleague, Polar Bear Shop, Eat A Book Records.

“Sitting behind our stall at Supersonic last year was the highlight of the year for Bad Egg. The atmosphere was excellent, the banter was rowdy and the chance to engage with so many people in such a short space of time was intense. As a DiY label it’s almost impossible to reach such a wide and receptive audience like the Supersonic crowd – we not only sold some records but also made some friends in the process. REAL ones too.” Dave – Bad Egg Records

volunteers

SUPERSONIC NEEDS YOU!

Capsule’s internationally renowned festival runs 21-23 October 2011 and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved as a volunteer.

We need a dedicated team of volunteers to help deliver Supersonic over the festival weekend (21-23 October) and also in the run up to the festival (early October onwards).

The festival is small enough for everyone involved as a volunteer to gain an overview of how the festival works, and to give real input and value. We expect a minimum of 12 hours over the festival period in exchange for a weekend wristband.

HOW TO APPLY:

If you are interested in volunteering for Supersonic Festival, please click here to download the application form.

Completed application forms should be emailed to volunteer[at]capsule.org.uk

The first volunteer meeting will take place on Monday 26 September, 7pm where you will be able to find out more about the festival and meet the team.

NB/ unfortunately we can only consider applicants who are 18 years old and over.
