Come and lift your voices in protest with Debbie Armour (BurdĀ Ellen), Ash Ludd and Simon Barr (Ancient Hostility) as we sing songs of resistance for our times and times gone by. You’ll also be invited to join our pop-up “Supersonic Choir” in performance. As always, everyone is welcome to sing with us. No experience is necessary, everything will be taught by ear at a gentle pace and there’s no obligation to perform.
Debbie Armour is a traditional singer and artist. In her primary project, Burd Ellen, she uses British and international traditional song as a foundation to build conceptual works and explore tradition in a contemporary setting. Burd EllenĀ has released three albums with the last two featuring in The Guardian’s Top Ten of the Year list for Folk.
Ancient Hostility perform close harmony folk singing to tell vivid, poetic stories of resistance, vulnerability and sadness. Interspersed with minimalist instrumental soundscapes and drawing on the irreverence of the 60s folk revival, these are songs firmly rooted in the present.
This is music for ordinary people who recognise the growing darkness but refuse to give up on the remaining light.
