Backxwash in conversation with Stephanie Phillips of Decolonise Fest
Saturday | 15:15 | Zellig Marketplace
Join us for a powerful and thought-provoking conversation between Backxwash, the Zambian-Canadian rapper, producer, and Polaris Prize winner and Stephanie Phillips, a music journalist, author, and musician in the Black feminist punk band Big Joanie. She is also the co-founder of Decolonise Fest, the UK’s annual DIY punk festival by and for people of colour.
This intimate exchange will explore themes central to both artists’ work: identity, resistance, and the politics of heavy music. Expect an honest, radical discussion about making art on your own terms, building community in oppressive systems, and the transformative potential of sound.
Decolonise Fest is a vital platform celebrating the contributions of people of colour to punk and alternative music.
