Born of Slovenia’s rural DIY free festival scene, the Širom trio create vividly textured and mostly imagined folk music. Fusing handmade and global instruments with fearless sound exploration, the results are unbound by tradition or geography.
They’ve become a word-of-mouth sensation for their mesmerising live performances which sees the band swap their array of ancient, traditional, homemade and found instruments on a constant basis. These instrumental exchanges generate an original, stylistically homogeneous form of expression that oscillates between folk sounds and contemporary meditations. The end result is grounded yet still steeped in mystical minimalism. The band’s revelatory mix of improvisatory acoustics, post-jazz and drone music will be presented at this year’s Supersonic Festival.
“Drawing on a range of world musics, European folk and acoustic psychedelia, Sirom’s imaginary folk spans time and space for inspiration”
