Supersonic Festival are delighted to welcome Richard Dawson back to Birmingham for a special concert at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to celebrate his new record.
A singular voice, part savant-genius, part court jester, Richard Dawson’s music echoes with the voices of the past, present and future. Following many a memorable performance on Supersonic line-ups gone by, Dawson returns to perform music from his new album The Ruby Cord, taking us 500 years ahead with a brand new sound. Lyrically he paints a fragmented virtual future, full of fractured utopian visions. After recent collaborations with Finnish metal innovators Circle and his work with Hen Ogledd, this is a return to Dawson’s own world via shambolic guitar-driven arrangements. This modern-day storyteller delivers poignant songs that uncovers a unreal, fantastical and at times sinister future… a place where you no longer need to engage with anyone but yourself and your own imagination.
Support comes from Me Lost Me, an artist who delights in experimenting with songwriting and storytelling, creating a beguiling mix of soaring vocals and atmospheric electronics that playfully push the boundaries of genre. Led by fellow Newcastle-based Jayne Dent who takes influence from folk, art pop, noise, ambient and improvised music, Me Lost Me’s music has been described in The Guardian as “stripping folk back to its bones while letting its future echoes bleed out”, and by BBC Radio 6’s Tom Robinson as a “brilliant peculiar noise”. She recently received the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Composers and was 2020-2021 Artist in Residence at Sage Gateshead.
