Rakhi Singh, Vessel and NYX present an embodied ritual to open this year’s festival. This will include original NYX compositions and a collaborative new work of violin, electronics and vocal ensemble, exploring Danish poet Inger Christensen’s masterpiece ‘It’.
NYX is a collaborative drone choir and otherworldly electric chorus, re-embodying live electronics and extended vocal techniques. NYX looks to reshape the role of the traditional female choir, testing the limits of organic and synthetic modulation to explore the entire spectrum of collective voice as an instrument. Rakhi Singh is a violinist, music director and composer based between Manchester and London. In 2016 she co-founded Manchester Collective who, led by Singh, gave their debut proms performance in August. Singh has established herself as a violinist and leader of high repute, working for and alongside the likes of Steve Reich and Bjork as well as collaborating with the likes of Blackhaine and Clark. Seb Gainsborough (otherwise known as Vessel) is a producer and composer. Having established himself with his three predominantly electronic LP’s, he has spent the last few years focussing on exploring the possibilities created by fusing the organic and synthetic, producing orchestral commissions for the likes of Aldeburgh Music, Somerset House and Manchester Collective.
