“…wordlessly fashions heady, droney atmospheres that could soundtrack a film where a man walks through a monochrome desert.” – The Quietus
Mésange is a collaboration between violinist Agathe Max (Kuro) and guitarist Luke Mawdsley (Mugstar/Cavalier Song). Their music is possessed and steered by a solemn power that embraces dense electric skies, exposing strings and layered voices with a dark elegance.
As a graduate in electro-acoustic composition, Agathe Max has worked within a range of indistinct disciplines including sound design for experimental film, theatre, contemporary dance and other visual art forms. She uses improvisation to explore a dark(er) materiality rooted in ritual, myth and the supernatural. Embedded within the traditions of electro-acoustic composition, Agathe has collaborated with an eclectic scope of artists, including Rhys Chatham, Carla Bozulich, Jonathan Kane, Yoko Higashi, Animal Hospital and Melt-Banana. Mésange’s counterpart Luke Mawdsley is a musician and composer, solo artist, collaborator and guitarist in Mugstar/Cavalier Song, former member of Liverpool avant-garde group a.P.A.t.T. and provider of ongoing portfolio of improvised and soundtrack works.
