Intriguing and unpinnable, South London’s Klein is a multi-disciplinary producer and performer. Tantalising glimpses into her kaleidoscopic world reveal a blend of vocal abstraction, disarming experimentalism and pop-cultural references. Her R&B-tinged sound is a patchwork of erratic cut-up, pitch-shifted and contorted phone recordings of her voice, piano and guitar, paired with samples from childhood Nigerian movies. Whilst layering personal themes of self-belief, misrepresentation and belonging, Klein’s playfully brooding assemblages creak under their maximalist weight.
