Created by the UK’s premiere experimental music festival, Supersonic Kids Gigs are designed for families as a way of introducing children to experimental music – BIG sounds for little people!
Shovel Dance Collective are a group of nine musicians brought together by a communal passion for the folk music of the British Isles, Ireland and beyond. Simultaneously traditional and experimental, for this year’s festival special Kids Gig, the collective will present folk music as a living communal activity, inviting families to sing and stomp-a-long and get fully immersed in their storytelling, joyful tunes and calming lullabies. The group favours instruments that conjure a deeper and stranger antiquity; hammered dulcimer, bowed cittern, mountain banjo, pump organ.
This Kids Gig will be hosted by everyone’s favourite alt-rocker and pyschy-storyteller, Anna Palmer from Dorcha, and will focus on themes of care, play, and collectivity.
“I love the depth of the performances, and the willingness to show kids exciting and beautiful music without worrying about it being over explained. A hit for the kids and parents for sure. The show was expertly hosted by Anna with infectious enthusiasm and timing.”
