Jessica Moss is a Montréal-based violinist and composer. Her music, steeped in experimental post classicism and captured in unfolding long-forms, is naturally immersive, with a dark grandeur.
Signed to Constellation Records (the same label of Supersonic favourites Jersualem In My Heart and Godspeed You! Black Emperor), she uses amplified and processed violin (and voice) to create works of expressive electronic and drone-inflected post-classical Minimalism and Maximalism. Her distinctive melodic sensibility channels Klezmer, Balkan and Middle Eastern tropes, with an ear for textural grit and timbral noise forged from her 15-year tenure in political postpunk band Thee Silver Mt. Zion.
“Few musical voices represent so well the estrangement and intensity of our times — Moss is among the best of them.”
