Led by Takiaya Reed (saxophone, guitar, live effects), their music is both heavy and beautiful, classically influenced yet thrillingly contemporary.
The Melbourne based instrumental doom metal band was founded by Reed, who is of Tsalagi and African-American heritage. Primarily an instrumental project, Divide and Dissolve’s sound carries a powerful message advocating for Indigenous sovereignty and against the atrocities of colonialism. Powerfully expressive and deeply communicative, their music speaks without words, using frequencies that interact with naturally occurring resonance. Mirroring the brash, bone-crushing potency of their dynamic drone sound, the formidable Takiaya Reed and accompanying percussionist carry their fight and their ancestors’ fight forward each day. Their performances serve as a forceful reminder of the ongoing battle against systemic oppression, using sound to channel resistance and resilience.
“Divide and Dissolve (D&D) absolutely destroy all notions of noise that I’ve ever experienced, taking the concept of ‘you can actually feel the music’ to another level completely” – Silent Radio
