Death-gospel maverick A.A. Williams is proving ’heavy’ doesn’t have to mean ‘loud’ with her crafted melancholic sound submerged in Gothic influence.
Swells of ambience from delicate yet decisive strums of guitar and glistening percussion give way to her sailing and unique vocal performances. Signed to Bella Union records to release her debut album Forever Blue, this is an artist who has been aligned with the likes of Chelsea Wolfe, but is seemingly moulded by the fragility and experimentation of Radiohead and PJ Harvey.
Through a rapturous blend of post-rock and post-classical, A.A Williams is a fantastic musician as well as songwriter; playing the guitar, cello and piano, her voice has the controlled delivery of a seasoned chanteuse whilst still channelling the rawest of emotions.
