Modern Ritual

This is an archive item from Supersonic 2018

“[Modern Ritual] is ancient, modern, experimental, real, fictional, personal, folkloric. It explores human and mechanical rituals, failure of ritual, through live improvisation and provides a platform to premier new works.”– Cafe Oto

Modern Ritual is an eclectic of new performances exploring ideas of ritual through music and words. Evoking both real and fictional landscapes, the collective features solo sets from acclaimed musicians Charles Hayward (This Heat), Laura Cannell and Hoofus (André Bosman), new sound performance/talks from writer/researchers Jennifer Lucy Allan and Luke Turner and a new collaboration between all of the artists.

As an extra special performance there will be an opportunity for Supersonic audiences to attend a free short participatory workshop, with the piece being performed at the finale of the evening. This new commision is called THESE WE HOLD CLOSE, THESE WE HOLD DEAR, and will be led by Charles Hayward & Laura Cannell.
