Steve Tromans and Dan Nicholls

...

This duo between two keyboard players, Steve Tromans and Dan Nicholls, provides an intriguing collaboration in the great tradition of Supersonic duos.  It has two players playing Fender Rhodes pianos, interacting with each other and improvising around compositions scored by Dan.

“Fearlessly exploring the margins of regular jazz and free-improv.”
John Fordham, The Guardian

Factory Floor

...

Everyone is raving about this London based band, you’ll find their brutal live performance stretches from dark, post-punk electronics to astute, industrial-strength minimal techno. willfully despondent female vocal and a slavering, primitive arpeggiator, gelling the two together with an eruptive frenzy of drums. It’s an interesting take on disaffected, cold-wave minimalism – something that seems to be in the air at the moment.

Nisennenmondai

...

[jwplayer config=”audio sidebar” playlistid=”1365″]Their performance at Supersonic 2009 was hugely popular, so we just had to get them back. Himeno Sayaka (drums), Zaikawa Yuri (bass) and Takada Masako (guitar) met, of all places, at the same music club at university in Tokyo. After quickly becoming friends the obvious next step was to form a band, and Nisennenmondai was born. Their driving rhythm section and metallic guitar sound something like an ungodly and hypnotic amalgamation of Boredoms, Neu!, Can, and Ruins circa 1986-7.

...

Enter the tiny musical world of Pierre Bastien and Małe Instrumenty. French composer and surrealist inventor Pierre Bastien has been building musical machinery since the 1970s and has worked with artists as diverse as Robert Wyatt and Issey Miyake.  His delicate, minimal music created from meccano and pocket trumpet has delighted audiences worldwide. Tweak Bird

...

[jwplayer config=”audio sidebar” playlistid=”982″][jwplayer config=”video mainpage” playlistid=”842″]

Brothers Caleb and Ashton Bird grew up in the woods of Southern Illinois where they first started making loud, heavy music together as young boys and they haven’t stopped since.

Their latest musical partnership called TWEAK BIRD is a band driven by big drums, fuzzed out baritone guitar and tandem spacey vocal melodies. The sound is a swirl of catchy and raw stoner-pop bits that are spliced, blended and expanded upon with unique sections of instrumentation including saxophone, flute, theremin, and even some gong for good measure. But don’t expect any typical lengthy progressive jams with these guys, they make quick work of their arrangements and leave surprises around every corner. They are both brutal and subtle so keep your ears sharp and have fun!

OvO

[jwplayer config=”video mainpage” playlistid=”901″]
OvO is a name shared by the Italian noise group led by singer Stefania Pedretti and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Dorella. OvO is one of the most interesting bands playing in this day and age. The combination of heavy riffage, bombastic drumming and vocals that could either crush concrete or lull a baby to sleep makes for an interesting blend of sound.

Dosh

...

[jwplayer config=”audio sidebar” playlistid=”1391″]

Multi instrumentalist Martin Dosh creates layered and looped electronic based sounds that would be described as ambient if it weren’t so joyous and danceable. In 2003 Anticon proudly released Dosh’s virtuoso debut, Dosh, a loop-building collage of shimmering organ, atypical drumming grounded in groove, field recordings and spontaneous performance. Dosh continues to impress with his phenomenal live performances involving extensive percussion including the mandatory pots and pans

Hallogallo

[jwplayer config=”video mainpage” playlistid=”877″]

Hallogallo – Michael Rother + Friends present the music of  Neu!
The legendary German group NEU! released only 3 albums between 1972 and 1975, but these albums had an influence wildly disproportionate to their modest commercial success. Inspired by revisiting these recordings, Michael Rother has invited a group of musicians to visit the NEU! universe with him for a series of live performances: Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Benjamin Curtis (School of Seven Bells), and Aaron Mullan (Tall Firs) will perform a limited number of concerts this year as ‘Hallogallo 2010’. This group will perform NEU!  music and selections from Rother’s work with Harmonia and his solo albums.

Melt Banana

...

[jwplayer config=”audio sidebar” playlistid=”975″]
MELT-BANANA sweat out a super-adrenalized, maxi-caffeinated collision of frenzied drum rhythms and torturous guitar squeals through tiny, frantic, hyper rhythmic little songs. Front woman Yasuko O’s ultra-high-pitched screeches and Agata’s screaming slide guitar vie for supremacy across a rhythmic frenzy that is so ridiculous and precise, it will crush you with its brilliance. Here are the cerebral gnashing guitars, the aggravated pep squad proclamations and the neck-snapping rhythm change-ups irresistible to those seeking a new musical truth. MELT-BANANA doesn’t sound like anything you’ve ever heard. Simply put, they are unclassifiable.

Jailbreak

...

[jwplayer config=”video mainpage” playlistid=”880″]Jailbreak feat. Chris Corsano + Heather Leigh
Jailbreak is the duo of pedal steel/vocalist Heather Leigh and drummer Chris Corsano. The name foregrounds the kind of outlaw violence with which the two reformulate rock/roll instants by bringing free jazz fire power to amp-humping sex beats. Jailbreak play improvised music that dispenses with traditional notions of call and response or dialogue in favour of a profound simultaneity that would birth instant forms from the application of high energy strategies. Leigh’s steel mainlines sanctified slide guitar sources and deforms them with overdriven electricity, playing a form of future-blues exploded by super-charged currents. Corsano detonates time, literally blows it to pieces, in favour of a profound polyrhythmic feel that would confuse past and future. Yet the whole thing rocks like it hasn’t a braincell to spare.
