Great music is a synthesis between sound and silence . The greater the synthesis the deeper the music goes .The sound creates the silence and the silence creates the receptivity to receive sound . You become centred, rooted . The earth and sky meet. The body and soul are no longer separate They lose their definitions.

Do.omyoga is a deeply connecting , meditative and immersive experience.

A slow vinyasa dynamic-restorative yoga practice soundtracked to atmospheric doom/drone/ ambient /psychedelic vibrations takes you higher and brings you deeper. Music from the heavier and slower end of the music spectrum acts as the driving force invigoration strength at the same time helps aid releasing tension by helping to hold postures ‘Passively” for longer through its emotive nature .

Equal focus us placed on Mantra , Asana, Pranayama breathing culminating in Meditation for a holistic YOGA practice.

Prepare to be wrapped in a sonic blanket on Saturday as they take you on an inward journey to another dimension soundtracked to a playlist of heavy music.

nic Presents
Ecstatic Material: Beatrice Dillon & Keith Harrison
DJ Copper Sounds
+ support
Saturday 9 Feb 2019
Centrala
Doors 7.30pm

ECSTATIC MATERIAL is a dynamic sound sculpture made and performed by electronic musician Beatrice Dillon and visual artist Keith Harrison in a BRAND NEW collaboration. This live experiment with sound and substance will be conducted through a modular system made up of malleable plastics, coloured light and multi-channel audio which is constructed, choreographed and diffused by the artists into the performance space.

Tour support comes from DJs Copper Sounds who spin copper dubplates, ceramic pots, and heavy icelandic rocks, using these materials to create a primitive and tactile form of turntablism. They will also lead a daytime workshop at each tour venue, where participants can design and cast their own playable wax 7” and take it home with them.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Beatrice Dillon is a London based musician, producer and artist who presents a monthly show on NTS, and has released music on a variety of record labels, performed at notable European festivals and art spaces like Mutek and the Barbican, and has collaborated widely with award winning visual artists for film, installation and performance.

Keith Harrison is an established artist particularly known for his work with ceramics, public experiments and the transformation of raw materials to unpredictable effect. Harrison’s work shows an awareness of social issues: the relation with audience; the value of physical things; references to popular music and social housing.

Copper Sounds are a Bristol based duo who are pushing the conventional DJ set by juggling four turntables and using raw materials to manipulate the otherwise dormant sounds of their varied record collection. Their set promises to be loud, hypnotic and abundant with raw dancefloor energy.
**Please note that the venue is only accessible via stairs.**

Supersonic Presents…

Hey Colossus | Youth Man | Yama Warashi | Matters

+ Ideas of Noise sets + DJs

@Centrala, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 5RT.

Saturday Dec 8th

Doors 7pm

Christmas come early you say?! We couldn’t resist having one last HOO HA before the year is out. Join us for a COLOSSAL end of year bash with some incredible noise makers as we take over Centrala, Digbeth on December 8th.

Hey Colossus

Forging a completely idiosyncratic combination of power, control, tenderness, miscontrol and more power, these six piece band active since 2003 acutely channel the best of your record collections and spit them back out into some quite astonishing shows and releases.

Hey Colossus have undergone a spectacular metamorphosis in the last three years – the 2015 Rocket Recordings double-drop of ‘In Black And Gold’ and ‘Radio Static High’ displayed not only a band with a work rate to put most all their contemporaries to shame, but one arriving at an atmospheric and rewarding sound with as much flair for the beguiling as the barbaric.

Changes may have been afoot in the Hey Colossus camp, yet their latest transmission ‘The Guillotine’ (2017) marks another peak for an innovative force in the realm of heavy amplification. We can’t wait to see what’s next…

“Chinks of pop light shine through, but this is still raw, uncompromising stuff. ” – The Guardian

“Standard-bearers for post-millennial British music which is au fait with punk and hardcore while not being punk or hardcore”. – The Quietus

“Are Hey Colossus! the best live guitar band in Britain right now? You’d be brave to argue otherwise. Don’t miss them next time.” – Echoes and Dust

Youth Man

Destructive Brummie sex punk.

Youth Man are the band you will wish you saw in years to come. Their live show is a shrieking, thrilling wrecking-ball of human bodies, flailing limbs and chaos. Brace yourself for an intense live performance matched by comic genius onstage banter.

“Their brand of punk leans heavily towards the weirdos (not the Weirdos) of early California hardcore, in which bands like Fear weren’t too afraid (or too unskilled) to throw in an odd time signature.”Rolling Stone Magazine

Yama Warashi

Yama Warashi is the project of Yoshino Shigihara, a Japanese musician and visual artist whose past projects include erstwhile cult favourites Zun Zun Egui (Bella Union). Inspired by Japanese folk dance, free jazz and tribal African music, and heavily saturated in psychedelia, Yama Warashi’s songs are lyrically outlandish and charming, melodically addictive and mythical; the band name translates from Shigihara’s native tongue as “small childlike mountain spirit”.

“This is dream pop from another realm entirely” The Skinny

“Liltingly folky and malevolently unhinged” Loud and Quiet

Matters

Matters are guitar+synth+drums instrumental trio from Birmingham UK – the push and pull of the three personalities that make up Matters can be heard, taking the music into new and often strange directions. Matters utilise their instruments to create expansive music, blending krautrock, psychedelic, post rock and techno into a rich and powerful sound.

‘This is something quite epic..another winner from Static Caravan Records’ – Steve Lamacq – BBC 6 Music

Matana Roberts + Kelly Jayne Jones

An exciting new live collaboration between internationally renowned US composer, Matana
Roberts and British sound artist/improviser Kelly Jayne Jones. The first in a series of special
commissions produced by OUTLANDS; a new national experimental music touring network.

A very special series of sonic episodes bringing together US mixed-media composer/
saxophonist Matana Roberts & UK improviser and flautist Kelly Jayne Jones:
two artists from disparate backgrounds, finding affinity in practices charged by fiercely
personal philosophies on sound and its potential within a patchwork of genre, texture and
meaning. Roberts and Jones will weave their own approaches into live collaborative works
informed by deeply expressive playing, tactile electro-acoustic interplay and a broader
shared politics of resistance/defiance.

Matana Roberts is an internationally renowned composer, band leader, saxophonist, sound
experimentalist and mixed-media practitioner. Roberts works in many contexts and mediums,
including improvisation, dance, poetry, and theatre, and has released a diverse body of solo and
ensemble work under her own name on Constellation Records and Central Control over the
past decade. She is perhaps best known for her acclaimed Coin Coin project, a multi-chapter
work of “panoramic sound quilting” that aims to expose the mystical roots and channel the
intuitive spirit-raising traditions of American creative expression while maintaining a deep and
substantive engagement with narrativity, history, community and political expression within
improvisatory musical structures. Constellation began documenting the Coin Coin project in
2011 and has released the first three of a projected twelve album-length chapters to date.

Kelly Jayne Jones makes use of varying combinations of prepared recordings, text, rocks,
found sounds and flute. Her work beckons a tussle with uncertainty, inviting exposure and
vulnerability in performance, chasing experiences that open our chasms within, without restraint.
Searching for humble principles of growth; physis; sound, connecting with others in the same
space/moment, customary experimental play, with threads and beads of improvisation and
interactivity. KJJ has had residencies at Arnolfini in Bristol UK and Kunstalle Bergen, Norway,
and has produced commissioned works for Haris Epaminonda at dOCUMENTA13, Tate
Modern, ICA London, Schirn Frankfurt, Point Centre Nicosia. She has performed, solo and with
part wild horses mane on both sides, at CCA Glasgow, Trieze Gallery Paris, Borealis Festival,
Tectonics Reykjavik, Hangar Bicocca in Milan and at Huddersfield Contemporary Music
Festival.

SUPPORT COMES FROM MX WOLRD AND SEAN CLANCY

MX WORLD
MX World is the project of South London-based musician Poppy Tibbetts. Her work combines traditional methods and styles of song writing with sampling, sound collage and audio-processing techniques to create atmospheric, experimental pop music, driven by a powerful vocal presence. This sound has been developed further for the MX World EP through sophisticated production techniques, her style branching out into a range of genres including, Industrial, Techno and Field Recording.

SEAN CLANCY
Seán Clancy performs an extended drone-based work for analog synthesizers and projected text throughout the UK in 2018. Through the marriage of continuous focused sound, pithy texts, and defamiliarisation, this work calls attention to the diverse range of journeys that Irish people have undertaken to England, both historically and in more recent times.

ORE
“Dissonant tones rub together like giant battleships scraping along one another as the duo of Ore alternate between passages of static drone and slow groans of “riff”.” – ATTN:Magazine

“The music David Lynch would use if he was doing a Hovis advert.” – Mark Fell

ORE- BELATEDLY is to be released on 2xLP and digitally via Box Records and features collaborations from Khyam Allami, Beck Baker, Sophie Cooper, Thomas Stone and Kazuyuki Kishino (KK NULL).
ORE is the the drone, doom tuba sound of Sam Underwood. Belatedly in his words:
“The title is derived from the fact that I failed to complete this album the first time around. I started it as a gift to my father when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2014. But I failed to complete it before his death 8 months later. I subsequently aimed to complete it but found that too hard…so had to start the whole thing afresh. This is now ready, Belatedly.”

Adrena Adrena
Adrena Adrena is a collaboration between visual artist Daisy Dickinson and drummer E-Da Kazuhisa, previously the drummer of the Japanese noise band Boredoms (WEA Japan, Reprise/Warner Brothers) and currently British electronic/post-rock band Seefeel (Rephlex, Warp Records).
The duo cut a raw blend of drums, noise and organic visual work, featuring in their performances an eight foot white sphere that hangs above Kazuhisa’s drum kit and which Dickinson maps videos on to; her work was described by William Barns-Graham of Fluid Radio as ‘cosmological and transcendental, drawing attention to the wonder of the earth and our sensuality on it’.

Health & Efficiency
Health & Efficiency formed in 2009, they are based in Digbeth Birmingham. H&E are Mark (Voice/Gtr), Log (Banjo/Electronics), Ben (Bass), Simon (Gtr), Gurd (Drums), Stef (Bass). They chose their name because young people think it sounds dope, it appeals to ardent muso snobs and fifty-somethings find it hilarious.
“A band who care deeply about their art, their meticulous arrangements clearly appeal to the enthusiastic crowd…”
Drawing influence and inspiration from a heterogeneous selection of art and music H&E combine elements of punk-rock, no-wave, free jazz, psych-folk, minimalist composition, and improvisation into a dynamic balance that sounds spontaneous and harmonious in its execution.

ILL
ILL is a genre-evading band which believes in the power of disobedient noise. With a repertoire of precarious pop songs and frequent improvised departures, ILL revel in the right to be weird, exploring the borders between the funny and the sinister, the personal and the political, the mundane and the surreal.
“Grotty, wild, weird, frenzied music… fiercely political.” – The Guardian
