Capsule the brains behind Supersonic Festival are curators, promoters and fans of the finest music, revealing the otherwise indescribable connections between contemporary music and art, crafting extraordinary events for adventurous audiences. Now in it’s 7th year, the event will once again take place at the Custard Factory in the heart of Digbeth utilising a number of spaces for music, art, film and cake.

We are thrilled at what is shaping up to be our best line up yet, with unique performances from such influential artists as Italian legends, GOBLIN,  their first show in the UK in 20 years, the reformation of the original line up of HEAD OF DAVID, who bring their driving bombast to proceedings for the first time in 23 years, the notorious Japanese band CORRUPTED who have yet to play on UK soil as well the reawakening of Greg Anderson & Stephen O’Malley of Sunn 0))) maiden voyage into darkeness: the cult  black doom act THORR’S HAMMER, not to mention splatter rock band THE ACCUSED, unruly trio MONOTONIX, the expansive drone-noise of GROWING; Brighton’s prog adventure, DIAGONAL; the wild avant futuristic jazz of ZU; the stoned pysch of EARTHLESS, the Virginian sludge rock of PONTIAK, the industrial experiments of 65 DAYS OF STATIC, the immense duo that is FLOWER/CORSANO DUO, occult noise act SKULLFLOWER, also joining the line up is SCORN aka Mick Harris (king of the blast beat)  and the new project combining Russell McEwan of Black Sun &  the electronic-vocal attack of Lea Cummings (Kylie Minoise) in the form of ATOMIZED, added to this are the power violence duo IRON LUNG  and one of the finest folk vocalists NANCY WALLACE will be featured in the line-up, once again highlighting the highly eclectic booking policy of the festival.

Supersonic Festival is located at the Custard Factory, Gibb Street, Digbeth, B9 4AA
The site opens at 9.00pm on Friday 24th of July, only then can you pick up tickets from the box office, which is located at the top of Gibb Street.

BY TRAIN
The Custard Factory is a 10 minute walk from both New Street Station and Moor Street Station.

Exit New Street Station via the main doors (signposted taxi rank). As you approach Debenhams, turn LEFT and walk through the tunnel. Ahead of you will be Moor Street Station. Continue forward with Moor Street Station on your left and the entrance to Moor St carpark ahead. At the crossing turn RIGHT (The Bull Ring Tavern ahead of you). Turn LEFT onto High Street Deritend and continue forward (with the Selfridges building directly behind you). On your left you will pass The Fancy Fabric Store, Birmingham Barfly, and South Birmingham College. Eventually you will reach the Custard Factory on your left – if you reach The Old Crown pub or The Rainbow you have gone too far!

BY COACH
Birmingham Central Coach Station is only a 5 minute walk from the Custard Factory. Start out along Oxford Street, heading south. After 1500 metres turn LEFT onto Digbeth, heading east. After 100 metres continue onto High Street Deritend, heading south. You will reach the Custard Factory 250 metres along High Street Deritend.

BY CAR
The Custard Factory is easily accessible from M6, M5 and M42.

Whichever direction you’re coming from to get to Birmingham, follow sings for the A41. Once you’re on the A41, continue to follow signs for the City Centre. You’ll find yourself heading towards town, slightly downhill along a road called Digbeth. You’ll pass through a couple of sets of traffic lights before seeing a Renault garage on your left – get into the right-hand filter lane for the next set of lights. You should see an old-fashioned pub on your right called The Old Crown. Take the right hand turn at this corner into Heath Mill Lane. A few hundred yards along and to your right, next to Air nightclub, is the entrance to the Custard Factory car park (its gates made up of the cubes of squashed cars).

There are many car parks available nearby, the closest being the Custard Factory car park on Heath Mill Lane, Digbeth, B9.

Old Library – Custard Factory

After the success of launching last years ‘Market Place’ we’re really excited about developing this area of the festival, a space for independent distributors, record labels,  poster artists and peddlers of curiosities to sell their wares, network and for you to meet face to face.  The Market Place is also where the bands sell their merch. This area is located in the ‘Old Library’ at the Custard Factory equipped with a tea room serving a selection of epicurean delights.

Open to the public on Saturday 25th of July from 4pm – midnight and then on Sunday 26th from 2pm – 10pm

Music Fears Satan

Supersonic needs YOU! Capsule¹s internationally renowned festival runs 24th to 26th July 2009 and there¹s plenty of opportunities to get involved as a volunteer. The festival is small enough for everyone involved as a volunteer to gain not just an overview of how the festival works, but to give real input and value. We will try to fit your experience and aspirations against required roles in the festival, so that we all benefit as much as possible

What’s available?

Capsule have 2 internship opportunities one in Marketing/Communications and one in Event Management you will be required to do at least 10 days between April to July, and then follow up report based work in August/September. You will receive valuable work experience and be credited as part of the core team that deliver Supersonic Festival.

In addition to this we need a team of volunteers to help deliver the festival over the weekend of the event itself 24th -26th July and in the run up to Supersonic from June onwards. You will be required to do a minimum of 6 hrs over the weekend in return for a day ticket and festival t-shirt.

* We are also looking for professional quality photographers to help us document the festival*

We will need to know, very specifically, when you are available to volunteer for Supersonic. This enables us to timetable volunteer hours in the office,at events and liaising with artists and onsite. It’s really important that if you’ve said you’re available at a particular time on a particular day, we can rely on your presence. Please look at your diary and let us know what commitments you already have.
