Monotonix + Esquilax + Beestung Lips + Cum Dogs

...

Capsule will be 10 years old this December and we very rarely do things by halves, as is the case with this month long celebration which will include a number of live performances, exhibitions and workshops.

We’ll be starting with a big party to launch an exhibition which delves way back  into our archive, this will be held at Vivid on Tuesday 1st of Dec. With special guests MONOTONIX. These guys absolutely stole the show at this years Supersonic Festival with their acrobatic antics, so it was only right that we have them open proceedings. Vivid has a limited capacity so get your tickets in advance!

MONOTONIX frequently set up on the floor among the crowd, playing shows raucous enough to result in the power being shut off or the police called in. Eventually finding themselves banned from most of the venues in Tel Aviv, the band decided to leave Israel so they could tour the United States and Europe. Their reputation as a band whose shows are not watched, but experienced. Monotonix have become known for setting themselves and their equipment on fire, stealing drinks from audience members to pour on themselves, and turning their shows into unabashed, frenzied dance parties.

BEESTUNG LIPS
Spewed up from the murky depths of Birmingham at some point in mid 2006, Bee Stung Lips is a four-headed hideous beast, with blood-shot eyes and tentacles stretching far back into the Midlands music scene.
Chewing on notes from The Jesus Lizard, Hot Snakes and Oxbow, and then spitting them back out, with additional nods to literary giants such as Charles Bukowski and John Fante, they create a provocative mixture of wilfully abrasive noise and viscera-shredding rock ‘n’ roll. Howling, anguished, and convulsive vocals tussle with rapid-fire drums, riotous guitar and blistering bass lines, before collapsing into a chaotic heap, breathless and foaming at the mouth.
Fiercely intelligent, yet unashamedly reckless, Bee Stung Lips possess an irrepressible addictive fury along with an abundance of technical aplomb. Rapidly garnering a sizeable reputation for their infamous live performances.

A night of aural carnage feat. Prurient

...

This is a one off event utilising the Vivid warehouse space as a venue for one night only. Cold Cave is the brainchild of Philadelphia’s Wesley Eisold, ex-Some Girls, Give Up The Ghost, and currently Ye Olde Maids etc with fellow band mate Caralee from Xiu Xiu. Cold Cave are a darkwave synth confection with more than enough static and noise cycling through to justify mentions of Prurient and Burning Star Core on their personal MySpace. The songs are danceable, dark, instantly infectious. Think ’80s industrial and synth pop over-driven through power electronics. The band are touring alongside one man noise assault Prurient playing a long continuous set. Painted Nails, a three-song 7″ released by Dominick Fernow’s Hospital Productions is out now.

Nicholas Bullen is a musician, sound artist and writer from Birmingham, England.
From early projects (including the abrasive ‘Grindcore’ of Napalm Death – of which Bullen is a founder member – and the dark, dub-inflected beats of Scorn) to an ongoing range of solo and collaborative projects. In recent years, his work has expanded into the broader field of the arts including sound installations, texts and lectures, along with continued performances at art galleries, music festivals and cinemas.

Dream Dreams The Dreamer Orkestra
Solo project of Matt Snowden, recently evolved to be a handpicked orkestra performing music way beyond the usual noise and drone tags. Multiple guitars, drumkits, basses, vocals, violin, trombone and other instruments create an overwhelming experience of sound. Power, restraint, intensely physical rhythms, unknown lyrics screamed and sung over silence and extreme volume.
Music for open minds and deep listening.

Iron Fist Of The Sun
Hailing originally from Druids Heath in Birmingham. Iron Fist of the Sun is the current sonic project of extreme noise protagonist Lee Howard. Live power electronics, experimental sonic terrorism and Black Metal are all encompassed in an unforgiving soundtrack to your most brutal nightmares… just don’t dare call it “Art Noise”

Racebannon + Beestung Lips + Dream Dreams The Dreamer

...

Racebannon started in 1996 with vocalist Anderson and guitarist James Bauman. They soon found the other members who would round out the line-up and they started recording and playing shows. After a string of releases on indie labels, the band signed with Bloomington-based Secretly Canadian in 2001. The label was known mostly for singer/songwriter indie bands, and having a noise/metal band among their ranks was challenging for the public to grasp. Their first release for the label, In The Grips Of The Light, was even recorded by Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes fame.

Their next album, Satan’s Kickin Yr Dick In, was a Rock Opera. It was released in 2002 to a fanbase hungry for the next offering; little did they know it would be so dense in noise obfuscation and content. It tells the tale of Rodney, who sells his soul to the devil and, in the course of seeking a better life, becomes lounge singer Rhonda Delight. This trans-gendered soul swap is conveyed through hazy blasts of distortion and the tortured vocals of Anderson (aka Delight.) Secretly Canadian then reissued an earlier release from Level Plane called First There Was The Emptiness in 2005. And after that there was silence.

At this point, a new album was brewing and the band were very careful about leaking the results. Acid or Blood veers away from the murky noise of earlier releases and spotlights the bone crushing riffs and manic vocals of Bauman and Anderson. While still retaining their nervous energy that hints at Melt Banana, the guitars have stamped out songs as memorable and hummable as anything from Melvins Houdini. Songs like Translucent Lifeforce and The Hard Way are incredible in their might while maintaining a feverish quality. Few bands can capture this kind of live ferocity in the studio. And Racebannon do it in spades.

Oxes + Beestung Lips + Bilge Pump

...

The OXES are back, and in grand style. After spending time apart getting married in Italy, delivering pizzas, worshipping football great Ray Lewis, and perfecting the art of the “claw” the OXES have returned to put their finest tunes to date on tape in THREE years!

Recorded by the OXES in their way fab home studio in the outskirts of Baltimore, the OXES EP is a maddening chunk of rock’n’roll, containing signature OXES’ stadium riffage, drum spills and fills, and sense of humor.

But, this release is a turning point in the OXES songwriting as they dabble in more straight forward rock numbers, and more, well mental rock numbers. Playing with time signatures, guitar leads/solos, off kilter rhythms, and even remixing a song, the OXES have taken a step into a slightly new direction.

PISSED JEANS + BEESTUNG LIPS + DOOM PATROL

...

Hardcore quartet Pissed Jeans’ rock is sourced in the early-80s loose-booty sludge of Flipper and Black Flag, the tightly wound treble-spray of late-80s/early-90s noise-rock such as Drunks With Guns and the Jesus Lizard. Whereas Drunks With Guns and Flipper often dealt with chemical-induced nihilism in their lyrics, Pissed Jeans rally against bad weather and sing about overeating to deal with emotions. They’re human. They will appeal to anyone who’s ever crapped their pants and can admit it. Having a sense of shame is critical in appreciation of shit like this.
